What are the Different Types of Sedation Techniques used by Dentists?

Sedation Types

Many people out there have some form of fear when thinking about the dentist, whether it originates from a previous traumatic experience or a fear of the unknown. A study by BMC oral health reported that about “83 percent” of patients suffered from dental anxiety. If you have severe dental anxiety it is important to understand the different types of sedations offered at the practice you are going to in order to ensure the best dental experience possible.

At Specialist Care Endodontics, we offer nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) along with local anesthesia to assist our patientsin being comfortable and relaxed throughout the endodontic procedure.

Nitrous oxide is not used for solely pain management, it is normally used to reduce the anxiety of the patient and to raise the pain reaction threshold. If you choose to have nitrous oxide used during your procedure, there are a few effects that you will feel right away as the gas kicks in.

  • More relaxed
  • Tingling of fingers and toes

When used in conjunction with local anesthesia it should create a pain and stress-free relaxed environment. The nitrous oxide is flushed off with 100% oxygen when the procedure is complete soyou should be able to drive yourself home from your dental appointment after having nitrous oxide administered.

You will be walking out of this office pain free and ready to get a crown put on that endodontically treated tooth, after a stress free and pain less procedure!
